Readers,
As we begin to enter the end of the school year, we have been asked to write a research paper. This paper is known as our Junior Theme.
Having heard the horror stories of how hard the Junior Theme can be, I was a little apprehensive when the assignment was passed out. I got even more nervous when I realized how little instruction or guidelines we were going to have with this. But, after spending a day in the library, I realized this was a huge upside. We have been given the option to write about almost anything we want. As soon as I figured this out, I became excited.
That would be one thing I have to put down. I was having a lot of trouble trying to find a "why" question when I was trying to find some huge political issue to write about. Something that I thought our teachers wanted. But as it turns out, they wanted us to find something that we wanted to research. It then only took a few moments to find something that I was truly interested in, and from there figure out there was a part of that topic that I knew nothing about. And that is what I think a true research paper should be. Filling knowledge in where ignorance used to be. Instead of some horrible, novel-length paper on the minutia of history or American politics. I can honestly say I'm ready to enjoy this.
